How to Password Protect a Folder

All of us have secrets! When it comes to our PC, we store a heap of sensitive files and folders for which we don’t want others to peep into. Ever wondered how to protect them with a password instead of just hiding them, which is now used by a 5th grader!

We provide you with the trick to password protect folder the easiest way. There are a lot of methods that you can use to create a password protected folder.

Here’s our simple way on how to password protect folder in Windows!

Step 1: Download and install 7-Zip

Navigate to the 7-Zip Download Page and select the download link of the latest version or simply download the latest standard executable file. After completion of the download, install the file as you normally do for any other installations on your computer.

Step 2: Open the folder in 7-Zip

 After installing choose the desired folder from the 7-Zip application. If you observe, you will find the Add icon on the top left corner, click the Add Icon. Or you can simply drag and drop your folder anywhere in the 7-Zip application.

Step3: Set password

A pop-up window “Add to Archive” appears when you click the Add icon. There’s not much you have to do over here, just go to the Archive format and select the zip option from the drop down menu. Once you are done with that, enter the password under the encryption block.

Step 4: Delete the original folder

This is the most important and crucial step! There’s no point in performing all these steps and forgetting this! After setting the password, donot forget to delete the original folder, which will obviously be unprotected. While extracting, you may still be able to view the file names, but cannot open them without your password.
